So my puppy was filmed by TMZ last night. I'm not even kidding. My puppy is so famous. But luckily he's also very courteous with the paparazzi. I just happened to be taking him for a post-fireworks-4th-of-July-too-much-strawberry-shortcake-midnight-walk last night, and while waiting to cross the street was stopped by a very nice guy with a huge camera and spotlight waiting outside a van across the street from STK...

Him: "What a sweet beautiful puppy."

Me: (Duh.) Out loud: "Thank you."

Puppy: (Duh.)

Him: "Can I film him?"

Me: "Uh.."

Puppy: (Duh. Sure.)

Me: "Okay."

Him: "Oooh, coo coo beauty oooh!"

Puppy: (Watch me rock his world.)

Me: "Tell him to give you 5."

Him: "Gimme 5!"

Puppy: Gives 5. Thinks to himself, Yeah that's right. I'm the bomb.

Him: "They're totally gonna put him on the show. Watch the show!"

Me: "Uhh..."

Puppy: (Totally!)

June gloom boom
Room
Vroom
Baboom
Zoom
Poom
Tomb
Doom
Loom

Those are all the words I can think of to rhyme with gloom.

Sure is gray today.

Guess it's good for recording. Quiet. Dense atmosphere.
Deadens the room, makes good sound quality.
I miss playing live.
Going to book a show soon.

Soon is easier to rhyme. More words end in "n".

Soon
Moon
Cocoon
Loon
Tune
Dune
Goon
Baboon
Noon
Rune

Ooh! I forgot another one for the "m". Womb.

I am getting ready to join my folks in the Bahamas for a few days. Pause here to berate me with your envy. Okay, all done? Yeah, I know, it's cool. I'm just glad they're not going to make me do something like a Club Med "Hands Up". I think I'm safe. What am I talking about, you ask? Who knows?

I played an interesting show on Saturday night at Room 5..Played the piano in public for the first time since I was 11 years old and had to play at a recital. I think it was a Mozart minuet. When I was 11, not last Saturday. Anyway, Saturday I played "Take Me In' on piano, the way it was meant to be. So that was cool. And the rest of it was a wild adventure too. Buti f you were there you know that. And if you weren't, well, come to the next one! Which is I don't know when. But soon.

In the meantime, I'll just keep grinding away here writing for a new album. And something will be recorded. Sometime. Till then intrepid listeners, readers, wanderers and mendicants, I bid you so long.

Today is Thursday. To my knowledge, no one has written a really great song about Thursday. As a day of the week, it's pretty much overlooked. Wednesday has the whole hump day rep to maintain, Friday is always great just due to the weekend factor; Tuesday a big workday, poor Monday gets riffed on all the time ("Monday Monday", "Just Another Manic Monday", "Case of the Mondays", etc. etc.)...Some songs go through all seven days, but Thursday just gets glossed over.

Personally, I dig Thursdays because you can feel the week winding down and the weekend winding up; also my LA Times comes on Thursday because I have the extended weekend edition subscription.

That's all I have to say about that.

Oh--I posted new video from my last gig--feel free to watch!!

So I had to post this beautiful lovely cupcake portrait, courtesy of my fabulously Martha Stewarty sister. Replete with sugared pansies fresh from her garden! Is that cool or what? Yummmmmmyyyyy...

In other news, "Take Me In" is finally live on iTunes and I'm super excited. It's my first ever real single, like in the old days when people just released singles. I feel super cool and important.

March 25, 2008

Had an absolutely insane week last week, furiously prepping for a photo shoot and getting a song ready to be on iTunes for a BIG surprise that's coming soon! Anyway, all is well, I'm decomposing, I mean decompressing, and getting ready to do my taxes. So I'd better go. But first, here's a shot of the photographer taking a shot of me during the shoot. Shoot. Shoot. Shoot. "They beat him up until the teardrops start / but he can't be wounded 'cause he's got no heart" . I've had Elvis Costello stuck in my head this morning. "He's watchin' the detectives..." Right. Taxes. Off I go.photo shoot

On my way to the airport for a quick trip to Tucson, visit my folks, breathe the desert air for a few days...

I had a great weekend trip up to Santa Barbara to play a guest set with my good friends Gates & Goodell at this cool moutnain tavern place down a windy narrow road past a bridge with lots of memorials to all the folks who've jumped off to their demise...Fun! It really was. I sang harmony to their rendition of "Mrs. Robinson" and we all had a good laugh...Hope to be back up there soon...Till then, here's a pic of me playing. Note the cow skull behind me. Rustic!!

I'm taking a break from practicing for my show tomorrow to say hello...And I just saw that Jeff Healy died...He was an amazing guitarist, blind and fighting cancer since the age of 1. I met him when we both did a benefit in Austin a couple years ago, and he was just a beautiful, incredible guy, with his baby on his lap backstage. He inspired me to play. My heart goes out to his family.

Not too much going on here. Had a kind of quiet weekend for a change, which did me good I think. I was exhausted from all the Oscar excitement! And my puppy got neutered last week (too much information Sarah?) and had a bit of a rough time, so I was all Worried Mommy. The good thing about him not feeling well was that he slept a ton and I wrote 3 songs. One of which is good. Which is a batting average I am very content to have. You know. Baseball season coming up and all. Sports Sarah!

i'll leave you with a couple pics from my last show, courtesy of my new friend Alejandro Soto Priego who's visiting from Spain. More news as news warrants. sarah_bwsarah_bq

February 19, 2008

So we're coming up on Leap Day, which means that we will all be leaping and jumping all day on the 29th. Don't call me. I'll be busy leaping. Not hopping. Not skipping. Leaping.

Played a show, pretty good, except for the fact that I was mildly doped up on cold medicine--but it gave me a certain something, I think--like Amy Winehouse.

That's all. I'm writing writing writing still, and some of it I actually like. In the meantime, here's a pic of what my puppy did to my favorite pair of sunglasses which I had had unscathed for 4 years...RayBan, wanna sponsor me?? Note the chew marks in the back. Lots of love. raybans

January 21, 2008

Oh my oh my...Took a month off from writing, did I? Well, not to worry...I'm safe and sound and very alive. Lyrical genius, I know ya seen this. Dumb. I HAVE been writing...Furiously, actually. But not blogging writing. Writing songs. So there. It's been too long and I have to make a new album and be all new and exciting and stuff...Will showcase a BRAND NEW SONG!!! ( say in a car commercial voice) on my next podcast. COMING SOON! NOW WITH LOW LOW APR FINANCING!! FOR QUALIFIED CUSTOMERS! I also finally have another show coming up--close to Valentine's Day, which is appropriate, because lots of my new songs (NEW! NEW! NEW!) are all about L. O. V. E.

Appropriate to that, I made a love-filled lemon tart last night with rasberries. So here's a pic of that. lemon tart

p.s. New podcast coming next week! STAY TUNED!!!

December 21, 2007

Quite possibly my last entry of the year. Very momentous. No pictures to show. Trying to decide what I have to show for the year. Some stuff. Not that I subscribe to the whole Puritanical what have you done to deserve your salvation business...But still. You know. Anyway, I do have audacious hopes for 2008, which is as it always should be. Being excited to move forward and all that. And I have some really cute Christmas cookies ready to take down to my family's gathering this evening...

I had a nice show at Genghis Cohen last week, and played a new song I just wrote called "Silent Night". Don't believe the hype. People will tell you I didn't write it. Whatever man. We all know the truth. Check it out on Youtube! The final bastion of truthdom, the last frontier of facts, the world wide wideo watching place!

Happy New Year, folks. May there be peace in your hearts. And cookies in your belly. Amen.

I guess I'm just about done digesting my Thanksgiving dinner. Pic follows of my pies. pies

In over news, I'm still getting over a wicked little holiday bug that had me pinned. But the tide has turned! I have the upper paw!

Let's see, what else? I'm getting excited for my last show of the year here in Los Angeles...(Next Friday the 14th in case you're too tired to go the shows page.) And my puppy Luca is getting bigger and bigger. Here is a shot of him the other night...Check the size of his bear paws! It's almost impossible to photograph him since he's so black, so you know, forgive the amateur framing and what-not. 'Cause everyone knows that otherwise I'm a STELLAR photographer.

Got to go. A new podcast needs my attention. Merry Hanukkah to all and to all a good day!

November 12, 2007

Thanks to all who made last Thursday wonderful. Man I had fun. Wasn't it fun? It sure was. What is-fun, Alex. Yep. A good time. Had by me at least. I needed that.

Well, just counting down the days to Thanksgiving and making pumpkin and pecan pies and my aunt's cranberry recipe with maple syrup a la the Navajo folks and yummy stuff like that. Desperately anticipating my December issue of Martha Stewart. Continuing the potty training saga for my pup. Writing. Practicing. You know. Pic of me at Genghis follows.

October 30, 2007

So oh my Good Holy Moly Lord of all that is Wonderful Wow last night I went to see Bruce Springsteen. I don't konw why why it's taken me my whole life to see him live, but it was worth the wait. He was playing at the old LA Sports Arena down near USC, and it was one big 'ol Arena Church...That man literally channels Holy Spirit. And sex. I have work to do. And how. I haven't even really processed it yet, so obviously I'm not writing well about it. Suffice to say it was life-changing. Wringing. Heart-breaking and healing and soul filling man oh man oh man oh man. After the show we had all-access passes and we hung out chilling with our good friends Jackson Browne and the Edge from U2. You know. Just your usual Monday night. I feel like Perez Hilton. Except I dont have anything scandalous to say about them. A couple pics follow. All for now.

Cough hack. Cough cough cough. Pardon me while I clear my black lung...Wildfires are burning surging raging saging all over the Southland...God bless the firefighters...In the midst of all this I went over to some French friends' house last weekend to teach them about the joys of Halloween. A real cultural exchange, you know. Anyway the resulting pics are--the result. Can you guess which is the French jackolantern? I knew that you could! pumpkin1

P.S. Also a pic of a yummy apple cake I made...Mmmmmm....

Trying to figure out some layout problems with this page. Hoping it works. Practicing for 2 shows this weekend, and editing my tour diary in between. Trying to get a new podcast out. Trying to write in clipped short sentences.
Working on it. Going to show a pic that a 6-year-old fan shot of me in Oregon. Thank you Dillon!

September 20, 2007

Well I'm in Portland, getting ready to run out to my show tonight at Alberta St. Pub. I'm ensconced in the luxury of the yuckiest poo poo smelling gross yucky yuck motel EVER. And it's expensive. And it's prepaid, which is the only reason I stayed. I think there's no slander in saying that the Thriftlodge in downtown Portland ain't worth it. However, there IS free wireless internet access...So God has not completely turned away from me. And now that I've offended half of you, let's move on! Here are a few more images from the road: Some of the wonderful places I've played and some of the fans (the older gentleman brandishing my album and his tongue is affectionately nicknamed "Gin and Tonic Mike" by all at Eddie's Trackside in Monroe, WA. But I nicknamed him "Hands McGee", if you know what I mean. The bearded gentleman owns the fabulous Green Frog Acoustic Tavern in Bellingham. Thank you James! And then some random images for you: sunset by the bay, posters, stuff like that. Off I go to play some mo'!

Greetings from Seattle! I'm on the road, on tour, on my own...Alone...All alone...Alone alone alone. I'm a little lonely. But I am having a great trip so far...Have had 2 fun shows, looking forward to another one tonight...Here are a few early images for you to feast on...The biggest apple I've ever seen in my life! Some landmark--space something or other--...The way my car looks after a few days on the road, and this wonderful woman Serena Markstrom who wrote a beautiful, elopquent (complimentary!) review of me for the newspaper in Eugene...Thank you Serena! More news soon...Gray skies and love from the road...applespace needleserena_sarahcar

September 3, 2007

And a hot sweaty good Labor Day to you all! Don't blame me; blame the weather. I've been MIA. It's too hot to write or walk or play or do anything but suffer and sweat. I know, that's all I've been writing about when I write. But it's still hot.

Not much to report right now. Trying to stay cool enough to practice... Leaving for tour next week!! Holy moly! Holy you need to get your oil changed before you leave Batman!

August 17, 2007

Good show Wednesday at Genghis Cohen. Big thanks to all the people who came out and went to church with me...Those were some damn fine "la la las"! I went home very happy, sweaty and re-inspired. Now I'll sit in the sweltering Los Angeles summer practicing and writing for my September tour! Mmm, may have to start with a trip to the beach. Always good to do in the sweltering. That's a good word. Sweltering. Sweltering, sheltering, skeltering, meltering, feltering, beltering, heltering...

July 19, 2007

Oh what a cool weekend. Big thanks to my house concert hosts, Anna & Mike and David & Kerry...A wonderful time was had by all AND I got to see wild turkeys!! (Don't ask.) Wrote a new song about the end of the world and just put up a new podcast...Check it out, won't you? Don't forget, if you don't get xml, you can just go to my podcast page: www.sarahdashew.com/podcast.html...

July 11, 2007

Listening to Steve Reynolds, packing for my 2 house concerts this weekend...It's good packing music. I recommend it: Exile is the name of the album...Let's see, plenty of undies, socks, flip flops, workout shoes, show shoes, protein bars, gas money, vitamins, camera, jeans, t-shirts, tooth brush, excellent most favored comfy pillow for the crap motel...Yep. No pics to post...Oh! Wait! I have a couple from the 4th of July! Talk to you next week with a good report and a new podcast...

July 3rd, 2007

Another show, another video. I put it up on Myspace. Because it's my space, and I can do what I want with it. As long as Rupert Murdoch approves.

Almost the 4th of July and I have no plans. I may just have to wander the streets of my neighborhood sniffing for barbecue sauce and hamburgers and crash my way in. Other suggestions are welcome! Here are a couple pics from my show at Room 5 last week...You can click on the small ones and get to giant enormous files, free for the downloading if you want to see all the details!

June 26, 2007

Wonderful trip up North for my first house concert of the summer...The good golks of the Acoustic Barn were very good to me, and we had a great time...I did a morning radio show on KVMR in Nevada City, which is this beautiful little old mining town in the mountains...So beautiful and clean air that smelled like pines and old storefronts and clear clear blue sky and pretty pretty and of course I forgot to take any pictures. But here are a couple from the radio show and the house show...Yippee! Also...Posted a little surprise on Myspace...Hope I don't get sued...

June 13, 2007

I wrote this song last week called "French Open". Because it's all I was managing to do was watch the tennis tournament on ESPN 2 and it was sucking all my days away...I heard one of the commentators actually call the French Open the "quirkiest of all the majors"...So I thought, well, that belongs in a song. So I managed to get something out of all that time sucking. The song isn't really about tennis, though. It's about life and our dreams and the things we give up...So I put it on my new podcast...Listen to it, why dontcha...
